Wednesday, January 23rd
Darrell went to bed pretty early on Wednesday night and I stayed up and was lying on the couch in front of the fireplace when the boys came in from church. It was a few minutes after 10:00. They usually go out with friends after church and grab a bite to eat. As they walked into the house, Jacob yelled for me to come there and he opened our bedroom door to where Darrell was sleeping. By the time I walked into the bedroom, I hear loud voices and realized that the boys were praying for their Dad. When I walked in, I saw (and heard) Jacob standing over his Dad with his hands laid on Darrell. On the back side of Darrell, Matt was laying beside Darrell and had his hands on his head and his back. They were praying so loudly, and with such fervor and authority, that I wondered to myself "who are these boys?" Darrell said they just started praying and woke him up. They prayed for healing, for cancer to be gone, for fear to be gone, for peace and faith to abound, and much more. There was an awesome spirit in that place. Darrell was just crying. I sat down on the bed and prayed with them. It is a moment that I will never forget. To those of you who are not Christians and maybe even those of you who don't attend a Pentecostal church such as ours, I know that you might not understand what I'm talking about, but to those others of you, what we experienced that night was a little bit of "old time camp meeting". It was wonderful! We pray as a family all the time, but NEVER have the boys taken charge and prayed with that much intensity. I was so proud. At one time I just opened my eyes and asked God to never let me forget this moment. We prayed for a long time and ever once in a while, Darrell's voice would sound strong and louder. Matt said somewhere during all this, "Dad, listen to your voice--it's louder". By the end of our prayer, Darrell's voice was greatly improved. He went from a faint whisper to a hoarse light voice. I know that God began a healing process in him that night. I thank the Lord for the boldness of my boys that night. I heard later that they had been praying at church and Jacob shared what was going on with their Dad and all the teens of the church and the youth workers gathered around the boys and prayed for them and then sent them out to pray for Darrell. They brought a "prayer cloth" that had been annointed with oil and prayed over and their hands were also annointed with oil. (for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, see the scriptures below)
James 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Acts 19:12 Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul. So that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.
I truly believe that great things are going to happen because of Darrell's sickness. We just experienced one on this night (Wednesday, January 23). To God be the Glory!
